Olds Alero

Alero

New for model year 1999, the Alero was a front wheel drive compact based on the GM N-body platform, the same one under the Cutlass. Unlike the Cutlass, a coupe was offered in addition to the sedan.

The Alero replaced the Achieva in the lineup. To push the car down the road, you were offered an optional 3.4L V6 putting out 170hp. The base engine varied depending on year. Until 2001, standard was a 2.4L I4 putting out 150hp. For 2002 through the end, a 2.2L I4 was standard which put out 140hp.

The Alero was built through the 2004 model year, at which time the last 500 were built as ‘Final 500’ editions. These received dark cherry red paint, unique wheels, badges, embroidery, and decals. The Alero was the last model to be sold by Oldsmobile.
